IST Bioinformatics Web Services: CABRI

Overview
The Common Access to Biological Resources and Information (CABRI) project led to the setting up of so called CABRI Network Services offering access to 28 collections of biological resources from European Biological Resources Centers, including more than 120,000 resources. All collections submitted their catalogues in an standard format for implementation in a common SRS site, the CABRI site.
CABRI Web Services allow for the execution of searches either by name, by identifier or free text. Two types of services have been implemented, searching either for a specific feature (usually, name and free text) and returning IDs or searching for an ID and returning full records. Services have been developed for each of the main types of biological resources in the CABRI system.
Further Web Services are available for a standardized access to any CABRI catalogue.

Services
Currently, Web Services are available for:

• Bacteria strains: Retrieve data from catalogues of bacteria strains
• Filamentous fungi strains: Retrieve data from catalogues of filamentous fungi strains
• Yeasts strains: Retrieve data from catalogues of yeasts strains
• Plasmids: Retrieve data from catalogues of plasmids
• Phages: Retrieve data from catalogues of phages
• Human and animal cell lines: Retrieve data from catalogues of human and animal cell lines
• IBRD: Retrieve data from the Interconnected Biological Resources Database
• General access: Retrieve data from any CABRI catalogue in a general way
