This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected.
By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).
SPECIES: mouse, Swiss albino
ECACC catalog code: 85022108
Susceptibility to viruses: herpes simplex * polyoma virus * Sendai * SV40 * vesic. stomatitis (Indiana)
Description: Mouse Swiss Albino embryo fibroblast
Viruses: See Properties
Depositor: Prof H Harris/Dr R Sutherland, Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford, UK
No restrictions. Patent: None Specified By Depositor
Properties: Applications: Contact inhibition and virus studies: polyoma and SV40 viruses
Available in the following LABORATORY:
Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
DMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:10 to 1:20 i.e. seeding at 5x1,000 to 1x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37C.
Karyotype: 2n = 40; hypertriploid
Evolved under conditions favouring retention of the property of contact inhibition of cell proliferation; they exhibit much more contact inhibition than diploid fibroblasts freshly plated in culture. Readily transformed by polyoma and SV40 viruses resulting in reduced sensitivity to contact inhibition.
Validated by: isoenzymes (species confirmation)
