Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) +10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:2 to 1:3 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2; 34C. Dislodge cells by agitation and scraping. Cells multiply over a wide range of temperatures 0-36C, with maximum growth at about 34C.
Passages: 80;
Karyotype: Modal No 51
Derived from tissue posterior to the anus of normal adult minnows. Capable of growth over wide temperature range from 4C-36C with maximum growth at 34C. Support growth of the virus of infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN), cat fish tumour virus (CTV) and Granoff frog virus (FV1). ECHO-II will multiply in FHM but the cytopathic effect is not extensive.
