This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected. By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).

GIRARDI HEART C2 (human, cervix, carcinoma)

SPECIES: human
TISSUE/ORGAN: cervix
TUMOR: carcinoma

DSMZ catalog code: ACC 116
Morphology: epithelial cells growing as monolayers
Description: human cervix carcinoma (derivative of HELA) these cells were cloned from the GIRARDI HEART cell line (ATCC CCL 27, passage 623) in 1981 and were thought to 'represent human heart cells'; however, isoenzyme analysis (Nelson-Rees et al., Science 191: 96-97, 1976) and DNA fingerprinting at the DSMZ established unequivocally that this cell line must be considered de facto a subclone of HELA; cells were described to be sensitive to various toxins and hormones confirmed as human with IEF of AST, MDH
Viruses: ELISA: reverse transcriptase negative; PCR: EBV-, HBV-, HCV-, HIV-, HTLV-I/II-
Depositor: Dr. K. E. von Milczweski, Bundesanstalt fuer Milchforschung, Institut fuer Mikrobiologie, Kiel, Germany
