Description: human Burkitt's lymphoma established from the Burkitt's lymphoma (left orbital biopsy) of a 16-year-old African boy in 1967; cells were described to be EBV-positive and to express mRNA for proto-oncogene bcl-2; this cell line has been assigned by the ZKBS (German Central Commission for Biological Safety) to risk category 2 confirmed as human with IEF of AST, NP, PEP B

90% RPMI 1640 + 10% FBS maintain at 0.5-1.0 x 106 cells/ml; split ratio 1:2 to 1:4 every 2-4 days; cells may grow slowly initially; cell culture may be started in 24-well-plates and later transfered to flasks; seed out at ca. 0.5-1 x 106 cells/ml at 37C with 5% CO2 maximal density at about 1.7 x 106 cells/ml;
doubling time of about 30 hours;
frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO at about 5 x 106 cells/ampoule;
contamination was eliminated with Mycoplasma Removal Agent, then negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization, PCR assays;

Derived from 16-yr old male Negro. Positive for EBNA, carries EBV markers, Complement Receptors, surface bound immunoglobulin and surface markers for Fc fragment of IgG. The cells should be handled under laboratory containment level 2.
