Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
EMEM (HBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:2 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-5x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin; 5% CO2; 37C.
Karyotype: 2n = 42
Original tumour induced in outbred Wistar rats by intramuscular injection of Rous sarcoma virus. The cells have virus genome but do not normally release infectious virus. The XC plaque assay is an indirect method of detection for MuLV in cultured cells.
Research council deposit: No;
Price Code: C;
Validated by: isoenzymes (species confirmation)
