SPECIES: rat, New England Deaconess Hospital strain
TISSUE/ORGAN: adrenal medulla
TUMOR: pheochromocytoma
ECACC catalog code: 88022401
Morphology: With collagen - neuronal fibroblasts; without collagen - spherical clusters
Description: Rat adrenal phaeochromocytoma
Depositor: Obtained from ATCC, USA
Available in the following LABORATORY:
-
Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
RPMI 1640 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Horse Serum (HS) + 5% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Adheres poorly to plastic; grows in small clusters. Use collagen coated flasks for attachment. Feed 3 times a week. Grows satisfactorily in suspension in untreated flasks. Maintain between 2-5x100,000 cells/ml; 5% CO2; 37C.
Validated by: isoenzymes (species confirmation)
Availability in cell line catalogues: ATCC: CRL 1721, DSMZ: ACC 159, ICLC: ATL98004, IZSBS: BS TCL 91

TUMOR: pheochromocytoma
DEPOSITOR: Dr T. Florio, Neuroscience Unit, ABC, Genoa, Italy
Cell line available for distribution upon consent of the depositor. For non-commercial investigative use only
PROPERTIES: the cells are described to synthesize catecholamines (dopamine, norepinephrine); respond reversibly to NGF by induction of the neuronal phenotype.
Available in the following LABORATORY:
-
IRCCS Ospedale Policlinico San Martino (ICLC, Genova)
RPMI + 5% FBS + 10% HS + 2mM L-Glutamine; Freezing medium: Culture medium + 50% FBS + 10% DMSO; split 1:3-1:6; seed at 1-2 x 10^5 cells/cm2; 37C, 5% CO2 , mycoplasma negative, HOECHST and PCR
to obtain single cells, pass the suspension through a 22G syringe; use collagen-coated flasks for attachment
