PROPERTIES: Myogenic, vasopressin responsive. Differentiation is induced by reduction of serum, IGF-1, vasopressin (AVP). AVP stimulates PLC, PLD, cAMP-phosphodiesterase. Skeletal muscle myosin, creatine kinase, myogenin, vasopressin receptor V1a, IGF-1 receptor, nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunits.

DMEM + 10% FBS + 2mM L-Glutamine; Freezing medium: Culture medium + 50% FBS + 10% DMSO; split 1:5-1:10 using trypsin/EDTA; seed at 2-4 x 10^4 cells/cm2; 37C, 5% CO2 Passage: 10, mycoplasma negative, HOECHST and PCR
L6C5 fuse in culture to form multinucleated myotubes. The myogenic potential is lost if cells are allowed to become confluent.
