Spontaneously transformed cells from a male patient with epithelioid sarcoma derived from bone marrow metastasis. Cells grow very rapidly and secrete GM-CSF. They have been shown to express AE-1 and AE-3 cytokeratins, epithelial membrane antigen, p53, human Fas and vimentin. VA-ES-BJ cells are sensitive to oxidising agents, busulfaxamine and protoporphyrin IX.
