DMEM + 4mM Glutamine + 0.024IU/ml Insulin + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37C.
Epitheloid cell line derived from the ileum of an adult histocompatible miniature male boar. Transformed by SV40 plasmid pSV3-neo. Electron microscopy analysis shows evidence of microvilli and desmosomes connecting cells. The cells were found to co-express cytokeratin 18 specific of simple luminal epithelial cells and vimentin assorted to a mesenchymal origin. Susceptible to Transmissible Gastro-enteritis (TG) virus.
