This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected.
By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).
SPECIES: lepidoptera sciaridae diptera - Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm)
TISSUE/ORGAN: pupal ovary
DSMZ catalog code: ACC 125
Morphology: polymorphic round cells, adherent
Susceptibility to viruses: Ac MNPV * baculovirus
Description: insect - fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) cloned from the parent cell line, IPLB-SF-21-AE, derived from pupal ovarian tissue of the fall armyworm (species Spodoptera frugiperda, family Sciaridae, order Lepidoptera); cells are susceptible to infection with MNPV and other Baculoviruses; cells can be used with Baculovirus expression vectors confirmed with IEF of AST, PEP B as not primate or murine
Depositor: Dr. Asta Cramer, Institute for Virology, Marburg, Germany
Available in the following LABORATORY:
German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ, Braunschweig)
90% TC 100 medium + 10% FBS split culture 1:2 to 1:3 every 3-5 days (cells grow adherent, but trypsin is not necessary as cells can be detached by tapping the flask or with a rubber policeman); seed out at ca. 2 x 106 cells/80 cm 2 ; immediately after thawing, cell viability may be low at room temperature (about 20C) without CO2 (keep lid of flask closed) about 5-10 x 106 cells/80 cm 2;
doubling time of ca. 50 hours;
frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO at about 2.5 x 106 cells/ampoule;
negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization, PCR assays;
Availability in cell line catalogues: ATCC: CRL 1711
