This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected.
By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).
TUMOR: sarcoma, Ewing's
DSMZ catalog code: ACC 268
Morphology: cells grow loosely adherent in monolayers; some cells grow as round or polygonal cells in clumps in suspension with cellular processes
Description: human Ewing's sarcoma (derivative of RD-ES) thought to be 'established from the benign giant cell tumor excised from a woman who had swelling and pain in the right ankle (distal tibia)'; however, DNA fingerprinting and cytogenetic analysis at the DSMZ established unequivocally that this cell line must be considered de facto a subclone of cell line RD-ES (ACC 260) confirmed as human with IEF of AST, NP
Viruses: ELISA: reverse transcriptase negative; PCR: EBV-, HBV-, HCV-, HHV-8-, HIV-, HTLV-I/II-
Depositor: Dr. L. F. Bonewald, University of Texas, San Antonio, Texas, USA
Available in the following LABORATORY:
German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ, Braunschweig)
45% RPMI 1640 + 45% McCoy's 5A + 10% FBS split saturated culture 1:8 to 1:10 every 3-4 days (without using trypsin) at 37C with 5% CO2 cell harvest of about 1.4 x 106 cells/ml;
doubling time of about 25-30 hours;
frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO at about 5 x 106 cells/ampoule;
negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization assays;
Validated by: cytogenetics 1 (human flat-moded hypertetraploid karyotype with 4% polyploidy; 103(92-106)<4n>XX, der(X), -X, +1, +1, +1, +1, +2, +6, +6, -14, +17, +18, +6mar, add(X)(p22), del(1)(p22), del(1)(p32p35)x1, der(1)t(1;1)(p32;q11), der(8)t(4;8)(q) * cytogenetics 2 (t(9;12)(p12;q13)x2, add(11)(p13), i(13q)x2-3, add(16)(q13), 0-2 dmin/rings present; t(9;12) is associated with benign epithelial tumors) * DNA fingerprinting (unique DNA profile with (gtg)5 multilocus probe) * immunological analysis (cytokeratin-, desmin-, endothel-, GFAP-, neurofilament-, vimentin+) * isoenzymes (confirmed as human with IEF of AST, NP) * reverse transcriptase (reverse transcriptase not detected)
