This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected.
By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).

Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
Medium 199 (HBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 20% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:2 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin; 5% CO2; 37C.
Karyotype: 2n = 42
Derived from a Rous sarcoma virus (Schmidt-Ruppin strain) induced tumour in an inbred Amsterdam rat. The cells are highly tumorigenic in new-born rats and also chickens. There is some evidence that the cell line is latently infected with the virus.
