This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected.
By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).
SPECIES: rat, buffalo
ECACC catalog code: 90021504
Description: Rat Buffalo hepatoma
Viruses: See Properties
Depositor: Obtained from ATCC, USA
No restrictions. Patent: None Specified By Depositor
Properties: Products: Alpha-foetoprotein Applications: Tumourigenicity and oncogeny studies
Available in the following LABORATORY:
Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
Swimm's S-77 + 4mM Glutamine + 20% Horse Serum (HS) + 5% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) or EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 20% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split semi-confluent cultures 1:2 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 1-3x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin; 5% CO2; 37C. NB: Cells are shed from the monolayer before confluence is achieved.
Derived from the Morris hepatoma 7777 (obtained from a male Buffalo strain rat). The original tumour was induced with N-2 fluorenylphthalamic acid. Particularly interesting for oncogeny studies since the cells produce alpha-fetoprotein (AFP).
