This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected.
By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).
DSMZ catalog code: ACC 189
Morphology: fibroblastic, grows as monolayers in culture
Description: human astrocytoma glioblastoma cells established from an astrocytoma tumor (grade IV) of a 62-year-old woman in 1986; cells were described as expressing mRNA for both TGF-ss1 and G-TSF/TGF-ss2 (but only the latter polypeptide was secreted) and expressing GFAP protein confirmed as human with IEF of AST, G6PD, MDH
Viruses: ELISA: reverse transcriptase negative; PCR: EBV-, HBV-, HCV-, HHV-8-, HIV-, HTLV-I/II-
Depositor: Dr. De Tribolet, University Hospital Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland
Available in the following LABORATORY:
German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ, Braunschweig)
90% Dulbecco's MEM + 10% FBS split confluent culture 1:2 to 1:3 every 4-6 days using trypsin/EDTA; cells grow rather slowly at 37C with 5-10% CO2 cell harvest of about 3-4 x 106 cells/175 cm 2 or 1.5 x 106 cells/80 cm 2;
doubling time of ca. 60 hours;
frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO at about 1.0-1.5 x 106 cells/ampoule;
negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization, PCR assays;
Validated by: cytogenetics 1 (human hypertetraploid karyotype with 37% polyploidy and with 1-3 supernumerary dm present in most cells; 102-108<4n>XXXX, +1, +2, +3, +4, +5, +7, -10, +11, +13, -16, -16, -16, +19, +20, +20, +21, +22, +8mar, del(1) (q41)x2, der(1 t(1;3)) * cytogenetics 2 ((p32;p11), add(4)(p11), add(7)(p14), add(10)(p13), i(13q)) * immunological analysis (cytokeratin-, desmin-, endothel-, GFAP-, neurofilament-, vimentin+ (100%)) * isoenzymes (confirmed as human with IEF of AST, G6PDH, MDH) * reverse transcriptase (reverse transcriptase negative)
