This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected.
By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).
TISSUE/ORGAN: lymphoblastoid B cell
TUMOR: multiple myeloma
DSMZ catalog code: ACC 117
Morphology: lymphoblastoid, single or clumped cells in suspension
Description: human B-lymphoblastoid cells (from patient with multiple myeloma) established from the bone marrow of a woman with multiple myeloma in 1967; cells were described to synthesize IgG and to have receptors for insulin and calcitonin; cells express bcl-2 mRNA; cells appear to be rather 'EBV+ B-lymphoblastoid cells' than myeloma-derived cells (see also Pellat-Deceunynk et al., Blood 86: 4001-4002, 1995) confirmed as human with IEF of AST, MDH, NP, PEP B
Viruses: ELISA: reverse transcriptase negative; PCR: EBV+, HBV-, HCV-, HHV-8-, HIV-, HTLV-I/II-
Depositor: obtained from ATCC (CCL 159), Rockville, Maryland, USA
Available in the following LABORATORY:
German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ, Braunschweig)
90% RPMI 1640 + 10% FBS maintain at 1.0-1.75 x 106 cells/ml, split 1:2 to 1:3 every 2-3 days; seed out at ca. 1 x 106 cells/ml, do not culture below 0.5 x 10 6 cells/ml; as the medium becomes quickly acidic (yellow) without a corresponding cell growth, it is advisable to change the supernatant medium daily at 37C with 5% CO2 maximal cell density of 2-3 x 106 cells/ml;
doubling time of about 45 hours;
frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO at about 5 x 106 cells/ampoule;
negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization, PCR assays;
Validated by: cytogenetics 1 (near diploid; 46(44-46)<2n>XX; apparently normal karyotype) * DNA fingerprinting (unique Hinf I-(gtg)5 DNA profile) * immunological analysis (CD3- CD10- CD13- CD19+ CD37- HLA-DR+ cyIgG+ cy_- cyIgM- cy_+) * isoenzymes (confirmed as human with IEF of AST, MDH, NP, Pep B) * reverse transcriptase (reverse transcriptase not detected)
