This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected.
By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).
DSMZ catalog code: ACC 239
Morphology: adherent epithelial-like cells growing in monolayers
Description: human melanoma established from the primary (achromic) cutaneous tumor (left thigh) of a 26-year-old man with malignant melanoma (primary tumor histology: SSM level IV); same patient as cell line IGR-37 (DSM ACC 237); described as tumorigenic in nude mice confirmed as human with IEF of MDH, NP
Viruses: ELISA: reverse transcriptase negative; PCR: EBV-, HBV-, HCV-, HHV-8-, HIV-, HTLV-I/II-
Depositor: Dr. C. Aubert, Institut Paoli Calmettes, Marseille, France
Available in the following LABORATORY:
German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ, Braunschweig)
85% Dulbecco's MEM + 15% FBS split subconfluent or confluent culture 1:4 every 3-4 days using trypsin/EDTA; seed out at ca. 2 x 106 cells/80 cm 2 ; optimal density of about 4 x 106 /175 cm 2 at 37C with 5% CO2 maximal density of about 8 x 106 /175 cm 2;
doubling time of about 18 hours;
frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO at about 1-2 x 106 cells/ampoule;
contamination was eliminated with BM-Cyclin (tiamulin & minocycline), then negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization assays;
Validated by: cytogenetics 1 (apparently human karyotype) * DNA fingerprinting (identical with IGR-37, but otherwise unique DNA profile with (gtg)5 multilocus and pYNH24 single locus probes) * immunological analysis (cytokeratin-, desmin-, endothel-, GFAP-, neurofilament-, vimentin+ (100%)) * isoenzymes (confirmed as human with IEF of MDH, NP) * reverse transcriptase (reverse transcriptase not detected)
