This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected.
By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).
SPECIES: rat, Wistar-Furth

Description: Rat Wistar-Furth pituitary tumour
Viruses: See Properties
Depositor: Obtained from ATCC, USA
No restrictions. Patent: None Specified By Depositor
Properties: Products: Rat growth hormone, lactogenic hormones. Applications: Hormone studies
Available in the following LABORATORY:
Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
Ham's F10 + 2mM Glutamine + 15% Horse Serum (HS) + 2.5% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:2 to 1:3 i.e. seeding at 3-5x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin; 5% CO2; 37C.
Karyotype: Hypodiploid, Modal No 40.
Derived from pituitary gland of Wistar-Furth rats. The cells secrete growth hormone at a rate of 1µg/ml cell protein/day. Re-inoculation of cloned cells back to Wistar-Furth rats results in a marked increase in body weight and stimulation of linear growth in both intact and hypophysectomized animals independent of rat tumour size.
